Me and some dear old friends were passing the time by having lunch the other day. There was this massively cool restaurant downtown, and we decided to go there. They have a wide variety of music that they play while you eat and enjoy the delicious food. You can either order off the menu, or you can ask the chef to prepare something for you that is completely unique.

All of a sudden, they said they were going to give away lots of prizes and gifts. We hadn’t realized it, but this was the restaurant’s one hundred year anniversary. The gift giving was to thank all the customers for being loyal, and allowing the restaurant to stay profitable in these tough economic times. They had some strange method of choosing the winners, which was based on this big tank of fish they had in the corner. I was very excited.

With a huge cheer, they unveiled the prizes. First prize was this portable DVD player. These things have become incredibly popular lately, and for several powerful reasons. One of the most popular uses is to use them on long car trips. If you have kids, then you know important it is to keep the kids quite in the back seat, while mom and dad are in front talking about grownup stuff.

And many people besides families use these as well. Any particular person who want to more easily pass time in an otherwise boring situation can find many fantastic uses for these wonderful portable DVD players. This was illustrated to me in a story by my dining companion. When he was in college, you could rent lectures from famous professors on DVD. I’m sure you can see how useful this can be to keep your sanity while waiting in that utterly boring jury duty room.

When the time came to give away the portable DVD player, I was really hoping I’d win it. Both my friends have one, but I don’t. And to make a happy day even happier, my name was called, and I won the DVD player. I will always make it a point, from now on, to eat at that restaurant at least once a week. They now have a loyal customer for life.
