This netbook also never gets hot, saving battery life, because it doesn’t have to use the cooling fan nearly at all. As an avid photographer, I needed a repository for storing and reviewing my images during my overseas backpacking trips. It takes over a minute to come out of suspend. Having suspended and hibernated many times, I can say that at least the functions work reliably. You just can’t beat this little machine…the small size takes some getting used to but the keyboard is full-sized and while the key arrangement may be different it’s much easier than many of the keyboards I looked at. I had to buy it from Microcenter ($10 less than Amazon) because I was traveling and needed it right away. Speakers are very poor- at its highest I could barely hear at a yard. I got the phone to work with my Droid. When I played HD video (using VLC) it did hiccup noticeably at times but below 720p it worked just fine. I had no problems using Excel or Word.
Also, weight is less than 3 pounds, not 6 pounds like my laptop. I love my new TOSHIBA Notebook. I like the size because I travel with a full size laptop for business and take my netbook along for personal use. I did upgrade it to 2 GB and I think it runs a bit faster.
Appearance-wise, the Toshiba is so adorable and I’m blown away by how lightweight it was. It weighs practically nothing–you could easily slip it in your purse and carry it without even noticing the extra weight. The quiet keyboard also feels nice and the touchpad is very responsive. I also like that it comes preloaded with NS internet security netbook version which really has not slowed it down in any noticeable way. Fires up quickly and does all the Office documents and web surfing I need it to. Based on other reviews I immediately upgraded the RAM to 2GB.
Unfortunately, when I bought the netbook, I also purchased DDR2 memory from Beach Camera, and have not been able to contact them to return the DDR2 memory. Hopefully people who purchase this netbook will learn from my experience and wait until receipt of the netbook before purchasing memory.
The 10.1″ screen seems small at first, but the resolution and vivid colors make for an excellent viewing experience.
When I first booted it up, it was fast. I loaded MS Office on it and never noticed any slowdown.
I absolutely LOVE the increase in speed and productivity! My particular model uses DDR3 but be aware that some do use DDR2! Ostensibly to aid in getting the new hard drive installed, in my 17″ laptop; that might as well be a desktop for how portable it is. I’m really very happy with it.
Nevertheless, or a solid, cheap, ultraportable computer, this is a good pick. free landscape design program.
